4 hands dinner - gēn 根 x T.U.N.G dining

T.U.N.G dining proudly presents the 1st collaboration dinner in our restaurant. On the 6th of August, we will open the door of our kitchen to welcome Chef Johnson Wong and his team from restaurant gēn 根 in Penang, Malaysia for a 4 hands dinner event gēn 根 x T.U.N.G dining.

Chef Johnson Wong, a talent of Penang, Malaysia graduated culinary school in 2007 from le Corden Bleu, Sydney. He then went on to find his own path of culinary all over the world. His journey had brought him to many reputable institutions such as Hotel Ritz Calton in Dubai, restaurant Rockpool in Sydney and restaurant Noma in Copenhagen. 

Returning to his hometown with an irreplaceable passion for traditional cultures, natural ingredients, and a love of his childhood memories’s flavours, Chef Johnson together with his friend Chef Javi created gēn 根, a beloved restaurant of Penang.

Patrons of gēn 根, Johnson and Javi began their career venture following their culinary studies at Overseas. This led to a journey of cookery experiences in the kitchens of several countries around the world. They returned to Malaysia to undertake the gēn 根 project and putting their loves with local produces to this new born Modern Malaysian Community Restaurant.

gēn 根 is a place where Malaysia's best local produce are fused with passion, cultures, the chefs’ childhood memory and delivered with the best hospitality for your dining pleasure. Their dishes are a deep dive into the nuances of Malaysian flavours and cultures, the chefs taking great care to understand the ingredients and the communities that they source them from.

A treat to T.U.N.G dining’s guests in our 4 hands dinner event came from one of the culture that often forgotten which is Teochew, the way of enjoying pineapple would be dipping with soy sauce and chili. Highlighting Chef Johnson’s best childhood memories of having this too.

Fun fact: Soy sauce or salt will help to negate the irritation on your tongue while enjoying pineapple.

Being known as one of the brightest star of Malaysian gastronomic establishments, gēn 根 shares T.U.N.G dining’s philosophy of cuisine and also business. We both are the teams of young individuals who are working to push the boundaries of our countries’ gastronomic scenes, who decided to come back to our roots and try to offer the best of ourselves. 

And with our special menu, being prepared with our 2 chefs’ most attentions, we hope to bring out the best of T.U.N.G dining and gēn 根 to offer our guests an unforgettable 4 hands dinner.
